96 GMC SIERRA 5.7l knocks

i have a gmc sieera with the 5.7l vortec. when you first start the truck or accelarte it knocks there is some gray in the oil. would this be from the cam or would it be crank/piston. while it is running i don't here any piston slap to the heads.
