O.K. The F.I. death spiral is complete ... I'm going to jump to the carb ... Being only "half" of a mechanic ; I've got more questions ... Wiring Demolition ; do you gut it all or just focus on the ECU & work your way out ... I know the basic circuits are fuel pump , fan , ignition / ditributor or I'm I over simpilfying ... Throttle linkage ; Holley makes a nice looking mounting plate & a ball assortment kit ; is this the methodology !?!? Fuel line tie - in ; Ive got my Bosch mounted in the tank , Summit Tech. stateed to use the Mallory In-Line Reg . for $85.00 ... Any other pumbing in - sights ???
Thanks Guys !!! Paul W. / Duluth , MN ph . 218.393.4848

Give Gary Jones a call tomorrow, we all just got back from Road America. He has done many of these conversions, probably can rattle off the list of stuff you should do and need.

If he is not at the desk leave a message.

Not sure what is on the plate for him.

The linkage is trivial. Throw away the cable and get a 3/16 rod. Thread one end and then bend it such that it goes from the carb, a slight joggle to the left and then straight through the firewall, where the cable came out and then through the hole at the top of the gas pedal. Put two nylock nuts on the rod, one on each side of the pedal. Don't tighten them completely because it needs a little play for when you press on the gas. Cut the other end to length and then put on a small spherical rod end and attach to the throttle plate on the carb. Then just check it to make sure that when you floor it, you get full throttle opening. Attach two throttle return springs and you are ready to go. It will never break and it is as direct as you can get.

If you are using the FI pump, you will need to use a regulator with a return line, or you sill burn up the pump. I think it best to get a Holly blue pump and then use a more normal regulator set to 5-6 PSI. The same pump wiring will work for the Holly and you won't need the fuel return line.

Indeed - I sold all of my FI "stuff" to pay for the new Carb Stuff... was a nice exchange...

You will need a new MSD distributor (and wires) to go with the 6AL. If using the stock Explorer you may want a 5500 or similar rev limit chip (they look like fuses and come in a set).

We added aluminun valve covers and a GTS type breather. Sealed dipstick (old style leaks when you corner hard enough....little puff of smoke and your getting fast! put these on the GTS cars too.)

I prefer the Holley Red or Blue fuel pump w/o any regulator. You can remove the return line and cap at fuel cell.

There is a Holley cable adaptor that will let you use the stock GTRA throttle cable and peddle.

You will be amazed at the pile of crap that can come off the car.

I'll shoot some pictures of my GTRA this weekend and post to help.

We're running a Holley blue w/ the FPR at the carp. Pro-systems carb w/ an edlelbrock performer air-gap manifold. Running an MSD distributor and ignition box and a rod-type setup from the gas-pedal to the carb. The return is capped on teh fuel cell, but the line is left in place just in case we want to do something different in the future.

have you always had the pro-systems carb or did you swap it out? BTW, I LOVE my pro-systems carb, its been flawless thus far!

I went to Pro-Systems web page & completed their worksheet ...
They stated, in a E-mail , they would NOT play with me because of my lower HP range :nono:... I'm running 350 ish ... Maybe I should have called them ?!?!
