Cartoon Countach

A 'tooned' version of the Lambo Countach. A Nitto kit IIRC about 1/20 scale though a bit distorted. This has been sitting on a shelf for 20 years or so. My first though was just a clean-up and some detail painting, but it really needs new paint.

New color choices. I really like this paint. I'd like some input on colors. Wadda ya think? :1zhelp:

Gunmetal base, Pavo Purple then a light dusting of snow white (use it for the pearl), clear it all together and you'll have a really nice purple pearl....maybe not the white, as the purple is really nice as is.

Id say clean up the other countach to XD Looking forward to seeing this baby comming together

The purple sounds cool, a bit like Corvette 'Black Rose' but just a bit more complicated then i want for this one.
I found a few more bottles of paint, ones a pearl orange.

What do you think of this?

I'm still thinking red for this one too. Not a dark red though, somethiing bright or even red-orange.

The other Countach is getting a clean-up too. It's about halfway there. soon to be seen in the completed section.

Diggin the fisrt colour. And the other countach is getting there!

Orange with that snow white for the pearl effect would be nice...might turn out pink though, so test it out.

Lay the pearl white over white base then top it off with dreamsicle and clear. oooo, puurrrrdy

A Countach needs a wing right?
Fat and round in the front and thin in the rear. (there's a joke in there somewhere) Four pieces of sheet plastic for the big part, the end panels will hide the steps.

It's hard to carry the cartoon look through. I'm not sure bigger is going to look better...

I think it would take some airplane wing parts to get the proper 'cartoon' look anyway.

Too brown for my taste. I think the real (kit) car above is HOK Tangello, but i don't have any of that, so i'll see what i can do with what i DO have.

On the left is the orange, on the far right is MM Turn Signal Amber.
Between is a mixture of the two. I think the left center one is pretty close. Now if only i have enough mixed up...

All over a silver base btw.

I'm digging the two spoons in the middle - the one on the left I like the most but the right one could also work out quite nicely on a cartoon model.

+1 for the color, that metallic orange looks killer on a countach.

Oh and yea, put that wing back on, it's perfect with it. ;)

A little more fiddling with the shade.
A bit more orange, a drop of gold and a pinch of pearl powder.
The new shade is on the left, now over a white base instead of the silver.

On the body...
Out of focus is good here. Theres a bunch of texture in that color.
And i was just thinking that there were too many layers of paint on this already.

The wing is back, i gave it a little more shape and added end plates.

Pool parties always seem to get out of hand!
Seems a lot lighter too. Oh and it's not a Nitto but a Bandai kit from 1988. I remember a Testarossa in the series, and there may have been a Porsche 959.

I had the 959 and the 'rossa. Were yours motorized? Mine had little wheels at the corner so you could run them around a track. They were quite fast.

Motorized with all wheel drive! Stupid fast. When i race electric cars i prefer to be able to steer and stop!
I had to look up where Tuttle is, and I've been to Mustang...

I'm back from my road trip and the body is back in orange. The clear didn't come out with a wet look shine but it'll do. Now i just have to mask and paint all the body trim and details.

Looks pretty good. I really like that color. I think I might use something like that on a Roadrunner I've got on my table right now.

Black trim painted. The engine cover lines are in fine 'sharpie'.
I did the full window wrap black just to keep it simple, it looks a little like a raccoon to me.

The tails will be painted silver, clear, orange then finally red. Hopefully the masking will still come off after all of that. :licka:

Tails in progress. They have been first painted Aluminum metalizer then cleared. When this had dried for a bit i masked the inside light segments off and shot a coat of gunze clear orange over the whole lens. With this dry i masked the outside segments and shot it with gunze clear red.

I put a 3D badge on the nose, but i just didn't like the look and this is a car that really doesn't need anything for you to know what it is. "Badges! We don't need no stinking badges"

The Joes cup normally sits on the left side of my bench. I had to check to see if it was in the background of any of the pix i posted. I am going back to OK in a month or so, but i think i'm flying. :grinyes:

Cute little car. When I was reading thru this thread the term cartoontache reminded me of CarToon magazine that I used to read when I was a kid. This one would definably fit between those pages.
