2002 TB fan clutch DIY

My 2002 TB with 109,000 miles is doing the same as everyone who has reported the problem. So for now the only way to avoid the problem is to leave the AC off, and the truck runs great. I am about to DIY this project. My question is about the special tool that is mentioned in other posts. The fan clutch wrench. Is this wrench needed specific to this exact part? Or can i rent the tool from autozone or pep boys and just ask to rent a GM fan clutch wrench? Thanks in advance...Royals

Large channel lock pliers will work.

Max: thanks for the reply, as i read thru all the posts about fan clutch problems, one guy suggested changing out the watern pump as well as the serpitine belt. i was goung to replace the belt but not too sure about the water pump....has the TB been known to have the water pumps fail? Did you change out yours when you replaced the fan clutch. Mine is a 2002 with 109,000 miles....Thanks in advance Royals

Listen there is nothing to lose doing the belt for sure, but the w/p, maybe, see if shows any shaft play or seepage, you decide, mine has 135k, so far ok, but it could go bad tomorrow. LOL
