1998 Cavalier LS 2.4L Water Pump

Hey guys. I have been avoiding this project for a month now but i need to do it before it seizes up on me. I have to change my water pump since coolant is leaking out of the weep hole and i am deciding to do it this weekend. However, i think i need some advice on some things. I think i should be good all the way up to taking the timing cover off and the tensioner. I have been looking at the front engine mount and the timing chain cover and it seems way too small. It looks like i only have about an inch to work with. Will i have to take the engine out completely just to have enough room? Also the book is very confusing when talking about the timing chain tensioner. I would just like some clarification on how to remove the tension from the chain to take the water pump off.If yall could help me out it would be very appreciated. Also, could you just give me some advice because tips and pointers always help when dealing with these problems. Thanks
