Hose connection at Heater Core

This is on a 1999 GMC Sierra 5.3 liter - The "quick release connectors" at the heater core nipples are anything but quick. I can't figure thenm out. One cracked and broke off dropping all of the coolant and truck overheated. The connector body that is left on the heater core nipple is white. Not threaded to the nipple; spins freely but won't twist off or pull off. Can I cut it off and just use a clamp to fix the hose back to the core nipple? This is the craziest thing ever - can't see a reason for it.

I had the same problem. I broke one of the quick connects. Gm's bright ideas. Yes you can cut it off, but be careful. The heater core line comes into the quick connect. You don't want to damage that. I believe its 5/8 heater hose. Its going to be tight putting the hose back on the line. You might want to put some kind of lube on the heater core line so the rubber line will push on easier. Then put on a hose clamp and check for leaks. Mine works fine. Stupid quick connects. Good luck.
