96 bravada shifter issue

I have a 96 bravada and am having trouble getting the button on the floor shifter pressed to shift out of park. It was intermittent but now is chronic.I replaced the brakelight switch,no help. the solenoid clicks when I press the button and after removing the cover,it is moving when the button is pushed.Is there a easy fix for this problem,or a way to disable the safety feature so it'll work? TIA
