Donor Engines

G'day Guys,

I'm currently building a 1/1 Lotus 7 based Kit Car, and want to build a 1/24 version for my desk at work. I've got a couple of Tamiya 7's in the stash, but as I'm using a 2.0l duratec engine I was looking for another kit that can "donate" its engine for my clubbie. So, my question is - is there a kit on the market that includes a Duratec/Zetec engine?

Thanks

Shane

I want to say that Revell made a tuner series , and one of the kits in the series was a Focus with a decent Zetec. Haven't actually seen it, so I can't say for sure.

Are you building an actual Caterham, or some other 7 clone? The most difficult part of building a modern Caterham from the Tamiya 7 kit is the rear suspension. The de Dion back end would have to be scratchbuilt, and I want to say that there hasn't been a live axle (like in the Tamiya kit) in a Caterham since the mid 80s or so.

The Duratec is a good match for the 7. I drove one with a Zetec, and it was an absolute scream! :p

Thanks MPWR, I'll be googling Revell Tuner Series asap!

The kit I'm building is a Westfield seiw (the w for wide body - to match my wide body). It's a independent rear end, so I'll have to scratch that up, but all in all it shouldn't be too hard to mod.

Ever considered putting an SR20DE-T in a 7? If so, get in touch with me, I could use some motivation to finish this scratch built motor I've been working on and off of for the last 4 years.

Yep, if I cant find a Zetec or Duratec, I'll throw in a SR20DET from http://www.thepartsbox.com/. I'll probably go for the flat top high plenum and add an air box or some bare trumpets.

I've started carving up an aero screen like this http://www.carbonmods.co.uk/Products/Carbon-Fibre-Aero-Screen__CMWSTAEROSC.aspx (http://www.carbonmods.co.uk/Products/Carbon-Fibre-Aero-Screen__CMWSTAEROSC.aspx)from balsa, and will probably try to mould some styrene around it with a hairdrier.
