ford escort MK1 zakspeed

Hello,

this is the first time that I start a WIP.
After having built the Scale produktion escort MK1 Zakspeed from Hans Heyer about 10 years ago, I always found there was something incorrect, but it was the best I found, and it still is my favourite.

When the Fabbri Escort MK1 arrived I made up some plans to rebuilt the MK1 Zakspeed livery. I got a resin copy from the Scale Produktion Escort and cutted of the wheel arches and front spoiler to attach them on the Fabbri one.

The result is what you see in the pictures.
The Escort sits very high on its wheels, but that will change.

After well drying from the glue I could bring on putty and start sanding all the wheel arches, which took a long time until I was satisfied.

I will use wheels from Aoshima, with stretchwall tyres, which fit well and give nice a seventies look.

At last some pictures from the painted car. It's still white overall, I'm not sure to use decals for the red and green lines, or paint them.
I think it's better to paint them.
I also lowered the car and fitted the wheels.
I'll leave it to dry for a week now.

Hope you like the result till now.

Greetings,
Joka-1

The work on the arches is great and the ride height is perfect!

I can't wait to see it with the race colours!

Hello,

finally some progress back again.

I made some changes to the body, I removed the lines near the side windows. ( this is supposed to be the chrome trim around the windows which was not on the race car)
So I did a totally respray, this time in matt white, so the paint for the castrol stripes holds better.

I also started painting the red lines.
The car starts to look more like a race car now.

In the back you see the reason why it took so long before I worked further on the Escort, the 935 body. ( Should be the Weisberg-Loos version from Toine Hezemans, which has other rear fenders then the Tamiya 935. )

Thanks for looking,

Joka-1

I agree - this Escort and the Capri Mk1 are what 70s saloon car racing was all about (oh, and the Anglia, Mini, Renault 8 Gordini..no wait, this is a whole new thread).

Joka, where can one get this Fabbri Escort?

Cheers
Graham

Hello,

to Endac, the body is all metal, the arches are cutted out from a resin body.

I think you can find these Fabbri models on Ebay,
or at car evenements. ( I bought my first escort at the rallycross-circuit of Maasmechelen, Belgium. )

i have this one too...., and i want to make the over fender too, but i don't have any idea how to make symmetrical shape between the both sides :(

i don't get you why don't you make the model from the scale production instead customize from the die cast??

oh yeah..., your escort is fantastic :iceslolan

Hello,

some progress again,
the green stripes are also painted on.

Now I can look for decals, most would come from the spare parts box, just the RTL decals will have to be made.

The interior is now from the road car, the rear seat needs to be removed, a roll cage installed and the front seats will be replaced with a race seat for the driver.

thanks for looking,

Oh yes,
I also have the Scale Produktion Escort, I built it about 10 years ago, but my body is not that good, it looks like it is bend at the section around the A-pillar. That's why I only took the fenders from the escort.
I'll post some pictures from the SP Escort soon, maybe together with the one I'm building.

Hello,

some progress again.
Today I found some time to print the decals and applied them to the car.
Now I leave the car for some days, before applying the clear coat over it.

I'm thinking of de-chroming the wheels, as they are to shiny?

Regards,
Joka-1

This is becoming one great looking MK. Last time i saw this car it was still white. Great paintjob. And you made the decals yourself. Thats good to know. I`m gonna build the Duez-Belga-Metro in a little while and i still need some decals. So expect a call.:naughty::naughty:

Hello guys,

final progress,
the interior is modified to race condittion, the steering wheel is changed by a race steering wheel, the drivers seat has been changed with a sport seat, painted flat red, and a roll cage is installed.

I assembled the car, fitted the glasses and lights back again.

Hope you like it, it all started with a Fabbri model from 9 Euro.

I've taken some pictures from the model together with the standard model.

Thanks for watching.

Wow! That looks superb, I don't think the wheels are too shiny, they look like polished alloy to me! Can't beat the 1970's saloon racers with their flared wheel arches, very nice! Would you mind letting me know which Aoshima kit the wheels came from because they fit perfectly.

Hello Viccario,

the wheels came from the Aoshima toyota Soarer, kit number:AO03698.
I think you can buy the wheels and rims only now?

Thanks for the interest.

Hello,

thanks for the comments.

My next build?
I'm working at the porsche 935 in Weisberg livery ( Georg Loos ),
started from the 1/24 Porsche 935 from Tamiya, where I modified the rear fenders.

I've posted some pics where you could see the model in the background.
( see picture below )
Thanks,

They are sold in Italy with a car magazine.
You may find them through e-bay, or at fairs.

Hello,
Here in Belgium you can buy most models at +/- 10€.
The Escort Mk I and the Kadett are getting harder to find and whe pay around 15-to 20€ on trade shows or fairs.
I've havend tried it, but I think that you can buy directly from them.
