Buying my first car

hey guys, this is my first post on this website.
as the title says i'm looking to buy my first car, my parents have agreed to go halves with me in it so i have about a $20,000 - $30,000 budget.
i am looking for a sporty car that i can have fun in (race, drift etc) but i also want a car safe enough so my parents would agree to buying, any ideas would help greatly.
