Hey guys. I have a general problem, that im hoping someone can shed some light on. my 94 Saturn 4 door sedan just started doing some weird stuff. It starts to rev really high if i put it into neutral or drive, and sometimes it will go down and stall. But, mostly just revving high, even when in Drive, it still revs higher than usual, pushing my car off faster without even touching the gas. Also, at the same time, sometimes the temperature gauge in the car will fly all over the place, or get stuck in the cold position, even when the car is hot, and then it will work fine again, and so on. What could this be? It even over heats sometimes lately, but im putting a new thermostat in today, so hopefully that should do it? I am not a mechanic, and do not have the skill to test wires with weird gadgets, etc. I know the basics, though, and if its mechanical, i can fix it. Just please, someone give me an idea on what to do first....Idle Control Valve, Throttle position sensor? i just don't know what it could be, but again, im not a mechanic. Please help

Check for applicable trouble codes. You should be able to check mil codes? engine idling, you could reach in the throttle bore and block the iac passages, see if there is an effect on the idle. There should be a big effect. If no effect suspect a vacuum leak or the throttle valve is hung open. In the past, I have used my finger to block iac passages on a six cylinder vehicle, different make and model. Using your finger probably isn't a good idea, the vacuum is fairly stout.

Im sorry. Would a Mod be so kind as to move it in the right area? thanks. the car did it again. The vacuum on the PVC valve, and throttle body seem good. What else can I try?
