hi, i have a 1990 civic dx. i just got all the brakes changed a couple of weeks ago and the past few days my car has been giving off a high pitch noise (what i lovingly call "singing" lol). a guy in the car business took it for a test drive and told me the front calipers need to be loosened and that the brakes are dragging, but he never said if it's something i can do, or if it has to be a mechanic. can anyone help me out? know of any links that would explain the precedure to me? i love my car, but it's really sings offkey!

Who did the brake job? If you had a shop do it, bring it back.

a guy my dad works with did it. get stuff done free of charge and he does mechanics for almost everyone he knows. so, i can't really take it back to a garage! he's busy for while, wanted to do it myself...

so it constantly gives off noise while your driving? i had that once, the clip on the brakepad was too big and dragged across the rotor. this probly isnt your problem, but oh well.

New front brake pads have loop of metal, a little tab, sticking out which is supposed to make noise when the brake pad gets very worn.
When I changed my pad, this little loop was scraping against my wheel, scrape, scrape, scrape, although it sounded like a click-click-click when I got going faster.
I got my pliers out and cut off the little tab. You should be able to take off your wheel and see a fresh scrape mark (on the inside surface of the wheel) if this is what's happening to you.
