The worst model that you have put together?

I was rebuilding my AMT 1953 Ford Flipnose ute and remembered how much of a struggle it was to put together - nothing fit!

What has been your worst model kit that you've bought?

my worst one was my very first car model a Revell 1/24 Ferrari F-310B (it was a set with a Ferrari F50)
absolute useless terrible kit.... never bought Revell kit again.... :uhoh:

AMT's 70 Chevelle was pretty bad. I bought it after reading a glowing review in a now defunct car modelling magazine.

When I opened the box the parts were horribly warped, and there wasn't much detail to speak off. After playing around with it for a bit I decided it's not worth the time and effort to straighten it up and just tossed it.

AMT's Lamborghini Diablo . . .

The kit is junk . . .

Actually, I never assembled it because after opening the box I quickly came to the conclusion that melting down the kit and sculpting an entire model from scratch would yield better results than the kit ever would . . . lol

To think there was over a 9 month wait for that kit and delay after delay from AMT . . .

Sounds like AMT is the worst!

The newer AMT kits like the Catalina and Electra aren't too bad!

Well, I'll forego my first few kits when I started out (10 years ago).
My worst over the last five years or so would either be

UT 1997 Porsche Evo. Looked great out of box, a million pieces and removable front and rear cowling. Absolutley terrible fitment. Due to so many pieces, things rarely fit together properly and was a general heap of crap when I finished it. I dismantled it a few months later for pieces. Interestingly enough, I purchased it again a few years later things turned out really well.

Revell Benetton B194. Need I say more? Paint was difficult and the decals were horrendous. Have it hiding in my box of 'rejects' in my closet.

Tamiya Arta NSX. The kit was really nice overall (its a Tamiya) but, it was my own fault it turned out horrendous. Screwed up th paint to an unfixable level, lost a few decals and even a side mirror! What a shame, it would have looked great finashed (properley). also in my 'rejects' box.

Trumpeter '60 Bonneville.

Wow, the Trumpeter '78 Monte Carlo came to mind as my worst but then I just thought maybe it wasn't the kit but my extreme disappointment with it. Interesting another Trumpeter kit was mentioned...
I am currently building the Revell Porsche 914, but I knew going in it was tricky, had no real expectations otherwise, and am really enjoying the build so far.

1/12 fujimi skyline, many details wrong. many details missing, terrible fitment of openable or other parts, loads of sink marks- maybe because its also ment to be a toy and a model in one BUT with some effort it can be built into nice replica

The 57 Corvette in my sig by AMT-ERTL. I couldn't believe how the fit was so bad and so poorly engineered. Despite this, I still enjoyed the model and would do it again. Althou to be fair I did scratch build alot and made many modifications. To build it out of the box would be clearly beyond my patience and skill.

Pretty much any AMT kit that came out before the 87 Chevy 1500 series pickup was the worst kit in the world with the exception of the 59 Mercury Coupe, that one was and will always be one of my favorite kits to play around with.

If AMT were not involved, I'd have to say the Tamiya Lamborghini LP400S (the motorized version) was hands down the worst model I've ever tried to put together, it eventually became a parts donor for some junk box project that ended up going in the trash.

I thought Revell would be leading here.
Lets see... Revell Ferrari 308 'Magnum P.I.' Tons of flash, the body where the engine cover goes was just a mess, the front hood was warped, the grill was badly molded and i'm sure there was more. It was one of the first models i built as an adult. I had a new airbrush, i was started with new paint (the then new Tamiya line) and still the kit was the hardest part. Then there's the Lotus Esprit, OMG. I've given up and restarted this PITA too many times to count. Their Porsche Speedster was no prize either. I'll give it some slack for its age, but the multi piece body was at best challenging. Their VW Beetle is a mess too, with tons of flash, bad chrome and complicated assemblys.

As far as the worst plastic kit, for me has to be the old IMC Ford GT40. I think it was probably just a little too ambitious for the molding capabilities of the time. The worst resin kit is hands down the TOJ Mirage M6, what a piece of crap.

My brother built the Boyd Coddington AMT Corvette (I think it was a 57') and it had a single piece chassis, retarded interior (sorry for saying the r word) and the worst plastic thickness ever! I don't know what AMT were thinking:screwy::screwy::screwy::screwy::screwy::s crewy:

He also made the Tokyo Drift AMT Nissan 350Z, where do I start:runaround::runaround:

Revell Audi R10 kit. Parts do not fit, lots of sink and eject marks, engine and rear suspension do not even remotely look like the original and the rear cowling is really badly warped. I have ordered two replacement parts just to check if they were any better... They were not. There is not a single part in the kit that would not need some kind of correction or modification. Simply unbelievable.

I am still building this model in surges of insanity followed by long periods of rest.

Fujimi Skyline R31 GTS-R racecar version. Rubbish wheels, brittle plastic, fitment issues, rubbish roll cage......had a hard time with it.

My worst model was one of my first car models I have put together. I was still very young but nontheless the Revell 1/24-5 Mercedes CLK-GTR was a crime when getting the rear deck fitting the front bodywork.. The rear deck was half a centimeter too wide on both sides... :eek7:

And I kit I got laying around I am afraid to start is the LMM Bentley speed 8 2003 winning car with open doors. The resin is very brittle and quite some parts have broken already when cleaning it. So one for later...

Arii's GT-40. It was a slot car body that they tried to make into a model. Not one good thing to say about the model; lousy fit, lousy decals, too simplistic, etc. After I worked on it for a month or so, I just decided the best location for this kit was in the trash.

Any Kit that costs $40 plus and is a curb side........ these days that is unacceptable to Me...

Some of the early Parma multi peice bodies used to give Me fits as a kid... and Lindbergs "Little Red Wagon" tool needs some freshening up as the flash is crazy

Worst for me have been Heller kits, in particular the Ferrari 512S. Heller have great subject matter for me with some great classic race cars but the original kits have awful decals with poor register. The worst bit is there are hardly any positive attachment points. Most parts just fit where they touch and you just have to guess where they go.

Anything Heller....anything Pocher whoever though metal screws would go into plastic parts was insane. It's no wonder there is so much aftermerket products available for Pocher.

For me, it has to be a kit that I'm looking forward to attempting again: Lindberg's reissue of the IMC Mercury Cougar II concept car.

I WILL build this kit again, in the same color as I originally planned (Testors Colors By Boyd Ice Blue) but this time I won't even attempt the ridiculously under-engineered opening features and I WILL replace the molten blobs that are supposed to be downdraught Webers on the 289.

I love the car. But that kit was nightmarish.

Runner up... the Polar Lights Richard Petty Dodge Charger. I'm a big Richard Petty fan, even though during my lifetime I never got to see him win a race. The warpage, the lack of locators, the crater-like injector pin marks, the wicked inaccuracies (though not nearly as bad as the Buddy Baker Charger companion kit, as Baker ran an earlier Charger with the forward swept B-pillar, and the Petty kit clearly had the rearward swept Road Runner-esque B pillar) and the unfair pricetag meant it's a slow goer on my shelf, when it comes to the idea of actually completing it.

Yes, I agree re: Pocher.
HUGE pieces of vastly over-rated trash.
VERY poor detail considering the size, unbelievably bad fitting parts and bits break if you stare at it too hard!
Also, the Airfix Aston Martin DB5. I had 2, (one was a replacement) BOTH had body shells totally twisted with a bent roof. Almost nothing fits.
I persevered and kept the result as it was the first kit my wife bought me when we first got together.

I`ve got only 3 words to say and anyone that has seen this kit wil agree.

Narton-Celica-Sainz.

A big blubber of resin that even doesn`t looks like a celica. I bought the tamiya celica 2000 gt-r and the only thing i am going to use of the narton celica are the decals.

Ettore

Pyro Cord 812 is the worst. But the Airfix Aston Martin DB5 is a very close runner-up.
