so I have a 1996 buick century that has had tons of minor problems but i have been able to fix them til now. I was driving along one day and everything seemed fine and i stalled, tried to start it back up but it just starts up and dies. The engine is very shaky and doesnt seem stable. I have been told by many it might be the crankshaft sensor. I took it to a mechanic and he gave me the run around about how crappy the car was and yadda yadda. He told me what I already knew and said it wasnt worth fixing. He tried to convince me it was stupid to even fix the car. I already put enough money into this car and im not giving up so easily. I took the sensor out and I wanted to test the ohm reading on it but I do not know what the resistance should be for a 1996 buick century 3.1L V6 engine. I do not even know if this is the main problem. the car sounds like it is misfiring badly. I checked the fuel injectors and everything is fine. What else could cause this? Could a failed crankshaft sensor really make the engine stall instantly and make the engine shake that bad?

have you checked to see if all 3 coil packs are working. this is very common problem.
