The best wheels for a STREET bike

What kind of wheels do you think are best for a mostly street riden R6?
I'm kinda thinkin' Dymag 5 spoke cabon fiber rims, but I don't have any insight into durability issues.

If it's mostly street ridden, then all I can tell you is not to spend the extra money on carbon fiber wheels unless you have that much money that you can just toss around or you really like the look of them. You just don't need to pay extra to save a few pounds on a street bike.

Actually wheels are the #1 place to try and lower your weight on a motorcycle after the exhaust.

"One ounce of weight on the rim of a 17 inch rim turns into 25 lbs at 100 mph"

That's a pretty cool little fact. I knew that wheels were one of the best ways to save weight. I just don't see the reasoning behind spending that much extra to save that much weight if the bike is primarily used for street riding. If it was a track only, or spent a good amount of the time on the track, I would be all about the CF wheels. Just my http://www.sportbikeworld.com/images/smilies/2cents.gif .

Hmm.. good to know. I'm less worried about the $ than the wheels "life" so to speak. I've heard some bad thing about their durability, but that could be subjective. I suppose now that a better question would have been which last longer mag or c/f?

Well, I think the mag is a little more durable, however as long as you miss the big objects in the road, and don't do hard wheelies or endos you should be fine.

Hey, anyone know if you can use BST wheels with the dymag single sided swingarm? I'm looking to get these if I can scrape the 8K or so together.

IIRC, you've got to be careful on getting wheels for SSSAs... I don't remember what I was reading, but I thought they said something about being extra cautious on purchasing wheels for use with SSSAs. I could be full of poop, though, since I can't remember specifically what the article said. :o

I belive that dymag swing arms use ducati spec wheels, so I'd have to think any wheel for ducks would work, but if you haven't guessed by now I'm tossing ideas around for what to do with my bike. I like most don't have $20k laying around to put into my bike. I'm wanting to gey the best for my money, and CF wheels seem like the best solution. ie Less weight, less rotational mass= faster beter handling.:bigthumb: We all want that.

It's kinda off topic, but kinda not. I've been adding up everything I wanna do to my R6, and well I'm looking at a ton of $$$. So, I thought that I'd ask everybody on the forums what they think. Ok, what should I do?
1. Put all my spare money into the R6.
2. Sell the R6 and get a new liter bike, an R1 probably.
3. Keep the R6 and get an used R1.
I'm asking everybody so respond! Please.

Keep the 6. Make a few mods. Buy a liter in a few years. Liters, IMHO are just too bulky, and as a twisty rider... bulky is BAD. Light is GOOD.

Ohlins inverted forks, RAM single sided swingarm, marchesini 5 spoke carbon wheels, carbon fiber huggers, and a nice eurobikes undertail, zero gravity double bubble windscreen

after that 10K or so in investments you should be happy :)

Thanks for the suggestions. I've got a chrome Double-Bubble, and my Yammie came with an undertail! :bigthumb: So I'm a little way there. I'll get some pics soon.
