When is the Prelude in for a restyling or makeover ?

I have not seen any news on the Preude and wondered if it is to be discontinued or revised.

I don't think the RSX is really the replacement for the prelude...Its more really for the integra. The prelude, i heard before, i thought may be replace by the new accord...However that was an old rumor and may not be worth anything anymore...Anyone have more info?

You're right that the RSX isn't a replaccement, per se; it's more like it got squeezed out of the line-up.

Prelude if it had stay on it's production run is due for a makeover for 2003.

RSX is integra Replacement.

Prelude replacement? That void could be covered up by the next Accord Coupe. Since it was Accord Coupe that cause the death of Prelude.

Plus there was no point of honda having 2 cars in the same category, competing with each other.... so 1 had to go

What are you talking about? The next Accord Coupe or Prelude? If you are talking about Accord Coupe then the correct hp rating would be around 225.

I mentioned a while back a rumor that the new Accord's were coming out with like 240hp. Of course that was then and I have no clue now as to what the situation is.

Those rumors came from the mouth of Bill Elliot vice president for American Honda.

I bet that Honda won't kill the Prelude. It's got too much of a great heritage. Plus Honda has to have something new to upshow the new (semi-new anyways) Celica, RX-8, or Z car! The Lancer Evo III and VI bodies look better than the Evo VII,the 6gen Civic looks better than the 2001-02 cars,the previous WRX(93-00),Integra(94-01),Camry(97-01),Z-car(90-96),RX-model(93-97),and a few others, all look better than their replacements.And the GT-R,if it looks anything like the concept, who cares if comes to the states at all,I mean its ugly as hell and doesnt look anything like a Skyline.The Accord-Honda, if you have hearts, dont change the way it looks!!! I think you just think it looks better because your more used to seeing it around. I used to love integras way more than the RSX, but the more I see the RSX the more it has grown on me, and I'm also getting sick of seeing Integras everywhere. So maybe you just need to learn to accept it.

Yes, of course a car may look dumb at first(the 94-01 Integra did).Yes, a car's design can grow on someone. But these new cars are totally dispicable. When I can get a new car, they will be very ugly,as most are now. All of the cars listed before has better looking predecessors. The newer cars have a chuncky,rounded-yet squarish designs.Anyone, even those who argued above cannot say they truly like the RX-8,NewZ-car, or that Skyline concept(all 3 looks like VW new beetles). Only nerds and geeks loves these space-aged designs.Whats up with the dome tops? all of these cars are looking more and more like VW bugs, and if Honda didnt kill the Prelude it would be a longer, less tall bug,basically. I forgot to mention the Eclipse!95-99 was much better!

Is Honda discontinuing the Prelude in Japan too? If so, the Accord Coupe couldn't have caused the death of Preludes there. I think the new Integra Type-R and S2000 were more of a cause for the death of Preludes.:( :( :(

I recently got a G4 Prelude and when you compare it to the Ford Puma I also own, the difference is startling. Whereas the Prelude is a cultured tool with such high level of build quality, terrific handling and unrivalled chasis...the same can't be said for the Puma. It's more of a refined tool -one that is good to own and look at - but it has no driving thrills at all.

Man, the Prelude is one kicka#s car. I remebered how the world (especially the image-conscience Europeans) heaped praises on the G4 Prelude for such excellent styling and great handling. And 9 years later, magazines are saying how much they missed the visual appeal of the G4 (quote from Autocar: "...soft curves of the previous Prelude are sorely missed...). And 9 years later, it still looks great.

The main reason why the Prelude disappeared is this: It just didn't appeal to younger buyers in Japan and around the world. When compared to the Celica and the S15 Silvia, the G5 Prelude looked positively ill. It was only marginally prettier than a squid, mind you. And in our world today, image and looks are everything.

So maybe Honda designers of the G5 Prelude brought the death of a much loved car. The Accord Coupe only exists in North America...although it's present in Europe yet it's outsold 10 to 1 by the Prelude.

Honda America has offically announced there will be no more Prelude's in the US, but Japan has not said anything yet so lets hope it will still be here..

Yea, I heard something about that. Honda could use a new technology mule.

I say more 4gen styling. Bring back the long-flat headlamps that graced the 4 gen ludes and integras. Don't make it tall and boxy like the RSX. Low and sleek, like the prelude always was.

i was talking to my friend and he says its almost definate they wil come out with a new lude, and he says a car by honda is never dead. Just take the s2000's for example....they used to be the s800 or something...and then htey said they were gonna stop and 15 years later...what do we have....the s2000's...which is same thing....so by the same token even if honda says theyll stop production itll proly start up with a new model....the only factor is time.

oh well, i don't see why, I have a 5th gen and they have to be one of the most beautiful cars i'm ever driven.

A 5th gen with more aggressive styling and long flat R34 inspired headlights.

That's what I would like see.

Honda needs a sport coupe that is light on its feet. Not the accord coupe. I would love to see the accord coupe die and a rear wheel drive prelude fill its place. Maybe even something with s2000 or NSX inspired internals.

I bet every lude owner on earth would spring for a RWD version if they had the funds.

I personally like the latest style of the prelude (5th gen, right?) alot, I do like the 4th gen too though, if im right about the 97+ being the 5th.

the reason the accord is in still production and not the prelude is all due to sales. the accord has been a best seller for years and years and it's honda's bread and butter car. without it, honda would stand to lose a lot of money. same with the civic. i forget the name of the first honda car in the states, but i know it wasn't the accord.

I make T.V. commercials for a living. I was shooting at a Honda dealership today. I asked the owner for the scoop on the next Prelude. The guy said there is a car slated to fit between the Accord Coupe and the S2000, but it won't be called a Prelude and it will not be RWD. Not that he knows everything, but he is in the industry...

an eclipse gt, celica gts, integra gsr, for example. all of which cost less and are comparable in performance to the prelude.

that's strange you mentioned those cars being comparable to the lude, i was shopping the last few weeks and ended up buying a 98 SH.

i drove an 03 celica gts, and an 02 eclipse gt...and neither one matched the raw power, interior comfort/finish, or $$$ of a car 5 years older.

just thought i'd throw my :2cents: in!
