i have an auto tranny, and a few weeks ago when I put it in reverse the gears wouldn't engage. the engine would rev, but it wouldn't move anywhere. the next day it started to work again, but after about 2 weeks, when I would go from drive to reverse it would make a really loud clunk sound and it felt like the tranny was going to fall out. After that happened a few times it wouldn't move in reverse again. So today I fired her up to see if maybe it was engaging the reverse gear, it wouldn't, but when it's in Park or Reverse and I rev it, it makes this whining sound, but it doesn't do it in neutral. After i revved it a few times, it would make that same whine at idle in both park and reverse. Is there anything i can check to figure out what might be the problem before i take it to a shop to get it inspected?

Well the only thing i can think of rite now is to check your tranny fluid. I really think your trans is goin out. Same thing that happen to our old Plymouth Acclaim. The trans went out on that one.

ouch man, i had a tranny scare the other day, i fuckin shit my self. it wasn't switching out of first, and i checked the fluid, empty, filled it up and watched it unload onto the road. so ihad it towed to a garage and it turns out a pump just went or something, they fixed it and filled the fluid back up and its going perfect. i feel your pain man, i know no one likes to submit and take it to a garage but try a tranny place they might put your fears to rest.

i've checked the tranny fluid, it's full and not discolored. I'm thinking about draining it and flushing it once to see if it helps any...guess it's off to the tranny shop
