91 Si Alternator Removal

Hello,
I've got the bolts and belt off the alternator off my '91 CRX Si. I just can't get the damn thing out from the top or the bottom. How the heck to you remove it? Thanks

well, i have a 90 EX and i had to pull mine from the driver's side. Pull of your wheel, and remove the splash guard and you should be able to pull it out from the side.

Well the easiest way is to remove the the drivers side axel. Then it should drop right down:)

Ok i just did this without removing the drivers axle, Pull it from the passenger side, go under the intake manifold and up thru the water pump. Have some antifreze ready cause u have to remove the water pump hose then keep on turning the alternator so that it can come off. It's like a puzzle. so take your time and it will come right out and just remember the position that u took it out in so that way u can put the new one in. Let me know if u keep on having any problems.

i didn't have to do any of that...just remove the splash guard, remove the alt mount and pull it out.......

Don't take the axle out. I got mine out without having to do that.

Yeh i didnt have to take mine out also. I was a pain in the ass so when i did my friends hatchie. all i did was take the driver axle out and the alt. came out so easy. Its not hard guys come on.:rolleyes:

I might try the axle method if I ever have to do it again. At the time, I was at my grandma's house and I had very few tools, so doing the axle thing wasn't an option.

PS-When I say 'few' I mean I had a 12 MM and a pair of pliers...

it was easier just pulling it for me than removing the axle, cause i did that the first time too cause i was replacing it anyways. is it really that freaking tight in the hatches compared to the 4 doors?

Wait I have a 91 hatch and I have found a really easy way to get this out. All you have to do is disconnect the alternator drop it down onto the engine bay and slide on the bottom of the engine bay from the drivers side to the passengers side. It then just slimply slipping it out from around the hoses and then you got it.
