Castrol Super Cleaner: Aftermath

Ok, I used CSC for the first time on my Camaro. The paint came off really easy, but now the primer.

When I rub my finger against the primer, it "flakes" off when it's dry..... so I gave it a good scrub with a tooth-brush under running water and the primer on the edges/corners comes off, and when I rub my fingernail against it, the primer comes off.....

What should I do??
-Sand the primer off?
-Just put another coat of primer on it, it's not going to be affected.
-Other suggestion?

sand it off? would probably be the safest! Or you could try a layer of primer and see if it still flakes off

How long did you soak it for? Leave it in there longer if you can. Use the toothbrush while the car is in the CSC bath. Water will neutralize CSC so if you try to work on it while rinsing with water it won't work as well, if at all.

most primers tend to be a little stuborn. leave it in there for a few days and it should be all off.

The best thing to do is take more care in painting your models, be patient, do research, do what is tried and true. There is too much paint stripping going on around AF, something is wrong. Not trying to be high and mighty here, it's just that painting procedures aren't that difficult, also this is not directed at anyone in this thread or any other, just a general tip. It's much easier to get the paint right than go through the pains of stripping which sounds like easy work but it isn't. :)

OMG, something must be wrong, I agree with Brian :eek:

Malcolm, if the primer will flake off, I suspect it won't hold up even with another coat of primer over it. You should be able to strip the primer off with a longer soak in the CSC, the CSC won't harm the plastic so you'll be safe to leave it in there longer.
BTW, I hope you are wearing gloves when working with CSC, the stuff can give you a bad chemical burn if you're not careful.

Yup, proud to say that I read the container before using :D! A few drops every now and then make contact with my arm (because my gloves only reach the wrist) but I always make sure to wash them real good! Say, did anyone get chemical burn before?

Veyron, I guess I didn't take the time to figure out that I needed to put silver paint on my car before I painted it Mica Red, so the tone would stay "even." Well, this is the first time I ever stripped the paint off a model. But I think I'm going to do it more often because I plan to "restore" some of my kits.

i am not sure anyone talks about this b4, but I really want to know is CSC/Dot3 Brake Fluid safe for clear plastic parts? thanks!

Honoturtle i can tell you this wear a long sleeve shirt no matter the wheather make sure it is one you don't mind ruining it's better then getting a chemical burn on your arms or hands. i talk from it happing to me i spilt lye thats a main part of CSC and easy off i got some sprayed on my arm and i wasn't aware of the danger and after about 15 mins it ate in to my skin atleast 1/4th of an inch. at first you don't feel any thing then you will see a red spot and then the burning follows and when you wash it off you get a nasty surprise of melted flesh and at the time i also didn't wear gloves so you can just think of what my hands look like :eek: the skin on my hands peeled for more then a month after that ever since i wear gloves and a long sleeve work shirt.

Now on to the primer i found that with CSC enamel paint will still stick to the plastic even after a day soaking so a good sandning with a high grit sand paper is best. and with laquer paint i found that the primer will dissovle first and the paint will just slide off in sections. what i do is lightly score the color paint so the CSC will soak into the primer coat.

joecwlaw CSC is safe for all clear parts i strip windows tail ights all the time in it.
