i thinking of buying a 2000 E46 318i and i was wondering what is the maxium BHP i can get out of it? i dont mind getting it with a turbo or superchrager. does anyone have any sites where it has high power 3 series? will the car be able to handle it and will it be worth it?

thank you

Of course you can get marginal hp gains from sports exhausts, re-programmed chips, or which there are many, but really it depends on how much power you want from the car. If i correctly recall pre-'01 318's had a detuned 118bhp engine, maybe thats just in Europe though... Anyway, it's possible to turbocharge more or less anything, but it could be quite expensive, again depending on how much power you want, and if you up the power a lot you might want to uprate the car's suspension. Overall i'd much rather be safe in the knowledge of having a fast, reliable car from the factory, and spend the extra tuning cash on upgrading to a 323/325/328/330

What the Hell is it with folks asking about making a 318i into to super powerful, turbo charged race demons???? WTF is going on people.
WAKE UP!! The 318 is a 4 cylinder entry level BMW, not much faster than a washing machine on wheels!

im not so sure about that

the E30 M3 was the S14 engine i believe which was a 4 cylinder that put out abou 197 hp. the evo models were the same 4 that put out 230 some hp. not sure of the torque, but that is to be respected.

i think that it may be hard to squeeze that performance out of a 4 however i believe that there is so much more power that can be squeezed out of a 4 cylinder mill. . .

hey guys im kinda new to this forum, but i drive a 2002 330ci, black, with aftermarket exhaust, (REMUS), and love it!!! so if you want more power and are not ready to spend money on an E36 M3, then I suggest the 330ci...:D
