yay my i swaped my wheel bearing out, i'll try to remember to snap some pics of the old one and attach em to show you why it was so noisey... my car sounds so f'n awsome now! god i missed the sound of my exhaust! the swap of the bearing was pretty easy and straight forward too took 30-45 min b/c... well i'll show ya in a later past and explain... not i just need to get phase 2 rolling... the new tire and braided brake lines/new brake fluid.

I had the same problem... except for BOTH my rear wheel bearings were toasted. OMFG it was so unbearable driving with the horrible GRINDING and RESONATING HUM. I swapped out my whole rear trailing arm/lower control arm with a disc brake unit, so i killed 2 birds with one stone, or should i say 4 birds with 2 stones :D

How did you do it yourself? I thought you need a press of some sort to get the hub off and the wheel bearing out?

that would be one thing to check out... does it do it all the time? or does it only do it at certain times? jack the car up grab the wheel and shake... if it moves then its a good indication the bearing is shot...

BLU CIVIC...a chain sound could be the CV joint... - if it is making noise all the time then your CV joint may not be in good shape. When they start making noise going straight, the axle's days are numbered.
Majestic sells OEM bearings for about $30 at http://hondaautomotiveparts.com - A bearing is usually a deep hum, that changes pitch the faster the car moves. You can sometimes feel the car pull to that side, or feel it in the steering (at least those of us without power steering so the feel isn't numbed;)) If your bearing is really bad, you should be able to smell the grease burning after driving without getting real close to the wheel. Jeef's test is also good...use common sense on that one...you'll be able to feel if it isn't right.
If it is your axle (CV joint), which is more indicative of a clacking or chain sound (like when your chain slipped off your bicycle as a kid) I would just go to the local parts shop for one of those - with a core exchange I get them for about $60 at Carquest. I figure since the boots only last a few years anyway, why waste money on high dollar axles
Hope this helps...Jeef, glad you like your car again..that bearing was pretty toasted :bloated:
Edit - Sorry guys...i checked the price..the OEM bearings are like $58 - :o

i know my cv joints have been making noise so the chain noise isn't my wheel bearing:confused: just recently starts making a low whining sound as i'm in reverse.....gonna go out and check to see if itz the wheel bearing during lunch....will let you know what i find out:(

The whining noise could be a bearing...it almost sounds like a tire seriously out of balance without the thumping, or like on a big, jacked up truck with nobby tires on the freeway.
You may have multiple issues....and are hearing multiple sounds..I thought my dizzy bearing was acting up, cuz something was whining whenever I first started the car..I have actually traced it to the throw-out or pilot (I always get those two confused) bearing in the tranny, cuz it winds down to zero when I let the clutch out in neutral :(

actually my throw-out bearing is making noise but not worried about it cause the tranny and engine are about to be gone....but i heard the noise this morning from the same tire area as i was backing out and when i started driving the chain noise came....so i just assumed it is the same problem
