Alright, I need a definate answer if it will bleed

Ok, Im going to paint a car white with a black roof. If I use tamiya tape, and press it down extremely firmly, then spray Tamiya TS Laquer black on the roof, will it bleed through? I need a deffinate yes or no answer. If it bleed, ill cry. :(

From my experience Tamiya tape works perfectly. I've only had problems with bleeding when brush painting.

It shouldn't bleed if you burnish the edges real good(rub down with a finger nail or something similar) especially where one strip of tape overlaps another strip.

Here's a little tip that I use: Cut the edge off with a fresh blade and a metal straight edge. The fresh edge is alot cleaner than the edge it came with.

Also, don't spray heavy coats. Spray 2-3 thin coats followed by 1-2 wet coats.

It won't bleed but it might leak under if it isn't pressed all the way down. I would give it a light coat of clear to seal the tape, then about two coats of black, ten minutes between each coat. :)

If you use Tamiya tape and press down will on the edge you should be fine.
The very first coat you put on must be a very light coat. This helps to seal the masking line with paint first. Allow to dry then spray

heres a lil tip. after you lay the mask down spay some clear to seal any where it MIGHT bleed through then lay down you color. light coats at first gradually increasing the amnount of paint each time.

I have a question concerning masking... how long should you wait before taking the masking off? I think if you wait too long and you take it off too late it might make the edges jagged, but can you really take masking off a recently painted car without it falling or something? :bloated: I just remembered my Lamborghini :bloated:

When I painted my Tamiya NSX I masked off the roof from the body using Tamiya tape. It worked great and didn't bleed, just make sure you take your time and make sure all the tape is pressed down firmly. I pulled the tape off about 10 minutes after I painted and it left a nice smooth line. Hope this helps.

No it won't bleed . I just finished a S15 with black roof a few weeks ago (the body masked using the tamiya masking tape when painting the roof) and it was the first time i use the Tamiya masking tape and the result was simply awesome:

Two more tips:
Before removing the masking tape, cut the paint layer along the edge with a sharp knife. That will make the boundary line very sharp.

If it bled, wait until it's dry, and carefully sand it with a fine sand paper, such as 2000 grit.
