Resetting ECU- 1995 Toyota Camry V6 XLE

What is the proper procedure for resetting an ECU?

I have read that you should disconnect the battery for 30 minutes, then reconnect the battery and let it idle for 5-10 minutes. Then disconnect the battery for 30 seconds, and then start her back up again and drive her around. Does the drive really matter or will it all ultimately be the same anyway? How do I avoid an airbag sensor code? Is this the proper method?

Thank you,
Techniker

Some of the 95 V6 engines were already OBD2 compliant. You can look for the OBD2 connector under the dash to determine if your car is OBD2. If it is, you will most likely have to disconnect the battery cable to remove the code(s) or get hold of an OBD2 code reader to remove the code(s). On older OBD1 versions you simply remove the ECU fuse for 15 seconds to clear the codes. I would try that simple procedure first and see if it works for you. This avoids removing the battery cable and having to reset the clock and all the radio presets. If you have to go the battery cable removal route, then just remove the cable and depress and hold the brake pedal for 30 seconds.
