1997 keyless entry program-tahoe

recently acquired a 1997 tahoe which the window sticker indicates should have keyless entry. have purchased from chevy dealer the remote, now need to know how to program it....have tried the 1998 procedure which appeared in the forum without success....does anyone know what the 1997 procedure was or is?
