my rear left brake sounds like somethin is stuck in it. ive gone to car wash and tried to blast it out and shit and it doesnt make noise when its wet, jus when it dries out. sounds kinda like some1 scratching a chalk board. any1 kno wat this is from? im gonna take off the wheel tomorrow and maybe grind the pad down a lil, any other suggestions?

That screeching noise is the safety feature like on 3rd gen maximas, which lets you know that its time to change the rear brake pads. There is a metal piece that goes near the rear brake pads, and I think its the 1/2 lenght as the thickness of the brake pad. When brake pad wares off that metal piece makes the contact with your rotor (when you press brake)

its doing this when im NOT pressing the brake too. when braking it jus makes it worse

The Maxima's brakes are rear biased, meaning they will wear out faster than the fronts.

i hate changing my brake pads...its always a pain in the butt. When do i know i need new rotors? benefits of slotted rotors?

It takes my father to change all brake pads exactly 23 minutes in front of his house. I had my timer on :D As far as slotted rotors, they are better beacuse they release heat much faster, that is generated from braking, compared to stock rotors. do NOT get cross-drilled rotors unless you are getting oversized Brembo cross-drilled ones, because most of them tend to crack.

i traded in the max for a truck last week, but i found out from friend at the dealership that the lil rubber peice that does over the caliper piston had tore and exposed the piston. thats all he told me, but i take it that caliper is prob locking up and thats wat the scraping noise was all the time  CHILLEN, if u get new rotors dont get cross drilled, slotted should do ok tho, will reduce some of the heat from the pads

you are hitting your brake sensors that are on your pads to warn you that they are in need of a change. change the pads and you`ll be good. make sure you rotors aren`t to chewed up .... if they are you should have them cut.. pep boys or other parts store usually charge around 20-25 bucks per rotor.. good luck:D

97wvmax,

my brakes have been squeaky out the arse ever siince i got them. should i upgrade to oem pads? with slotted rotors, since it releases heat better, should it reduce the squeakiness?

its kinda embarasssing flossin' your ride w/your mods and system...stop at a red light and have the bunch of girls next to you cover their ears from the brakes

DOH!

my pads were not worn out by the way, it was something with the caliper, guy from dealership i kno called and told me a few days ago. chillen, mine did that too when i first got the max, sometimes it was cuz of dust and crap in the pads, try sprayin it out, or jus wait till ya pads wear down and change them, which u might wanna try urself, shops will charge out the ass for labor. dont worry bout the slotted rotors unless u were plannin on that, the heat shouldnt have anything to do with the squeak but will make ur braking a lot better, jus DO NOT GET DRILLED ROTORS the damn things will crack
