Help with evap core

Hi I got a 2008 silverado 5.3l, automatic
My a/c system is leaking from the evap core so now it needs to be replaced. I here it is alot of work to replace the evap, since you have to pull the dash out and stuff. I heard there is a short cut to do the job and cut the time down to like 2 hours. Does anyone have any info on this, Please post pics

Yes most are 8-12 hrs hard work.
Most short cuts are learned by doing them.
Find a dealer tech and see if he will give you some pointers.
But.
It does not have a easy button?
How many miles?
Any warranty left on it?

Have you checked with the dealer for recalls?

Check around in the how to secctions for info on replacing it.

how was this tested to determine this ? leaking refrigerent is what I believe you are refering to .

being a 2008 vehicle this would be very odd ...many vehicles go decades and hundreds of thousands of miles with no evaporator refrigerent leaks ..

determine why it has failed then report back this finding...this could lead to a recall..

save the old part and labor costs

It is leaking because the evap is leaking. Just want to know if anyone knows of a short cut. Not here to investigate or report back findings for the company. Again no warranty no recalls, evap is leaking for sure, just seeking some simple help, if chevy needs info they can call me

You'll never see a recall for QUALITY issues-- only a TSB (Customer pay)
Recalls are only for SAFETY if you have ever noticed.....keeping the customer safe is number one-- stealing there money is no big deal

Shortcuts I do-- I just drop the steering column- do not pull it out-- then I pull right hand side of dash back far enough lay it on passenger seat and hang it from ceiling- far enough to access HVAC box....makes a 6 hour job out of it instead of 8....

if these vehicles have a problem with the evaporator leaking refrigerent this may be a recall and this can be a safety issue ...leaking refrigerent is hazardous to injest . since the vents are blowing at your body I would say this is a dangerous condition...


replacing this componet will cost over 1000.oo for labor/parts/recharge...

keeping your failed parts and labor expense receipts Is what I would do..

Thanks brcidd I will give it a try. Do you have to take most of the dash apart or do you unbolt it and pull it back, because I know you have to take the first layer off to get to the second part then you are able to pull the reinfocment bar out. ANy advise on those hard to find bolts in the engine bay for the box. Please send pics if you got. Thanks
