I HAVE SEEN SOMEONE BORE A D16 SOHC ENGINE TO 1.8...ANYONE KNOW THE ADVANTAGE OF PERFORMING THIS?

you will have more displacement.

Not worth the money, just do an ls swap.

...usually they're not bored..they're stroked.

stroking gives more torque, boring gives more top end. Boring isn't for big increases, it is basically used in conjunction with stroking for more increases. However, if you do bore, definitely use at least a blockguard if you don't get sleeves.

Bore and stroke are the two factors used to calculate displacement. If you increase the size of the cylinder or increase the length of the stroke (that's the distance the piston travels up and down) you will increase the displacement and the torque.
If the stroke gets too long, it puts stress on the sides of the cylinder walls, which is called 'sideloading'.
Stroke is like using a cheater pipe. The longer the cheater pipe, the more umph! you can exert. It's also like using a lever to move something. The longer the lever, the heavier the object you can move.
There's an advantage to having a short stroke, too. Once you've got a difficult nut loose, you take off the cheater pipe to decrease the stroke so you can get it off faster.
If you spin around in an office chair and pull in your legs, you can spin faster on the same energy. Same with ice skaters pulling in their arms when they are spinning superfast. They pull in the arms, and decrease the stroke, letting them wind wayy up!
Diesel engines have an incredibly long stroke. That's why they can pull a heavy load up a hill, but they don't wind up very high. Increase the stroke too much, and you can't wind up to the high RPMs.
'Stroking' is increasing the stroke. 'Destroking' is making it shorter.
Also, any time you increase the width of the bore of the length of the stroke, displacement goes up. Any time displacement goes up, torque goes up. That's why racers of V-8s say, "No REplacement for DISplacement."

PS-Hope this isn't too 'boring'.

They sell sleeves 84-85 mm for b16s that makes it 1.8 or gsrs that makes it 2.0. That'll increase the torque.

that's all great and everything...but he asked about bore, not stroke. I actually happen to have a really long stroke, if you know what I mean!:flipa: :flipa:

yes, I understand that boring will increase torque. However, the torque gains from boring are very small in comparison to the torque gains from stroke. Boring is more beneficial at higher RPM's rather than low RPM's. But, yes, I know there will still be gains on the low end. Sounds like muck I know.
