I HAD 2 CARS----THE ONE WITH THE GOOD MOTOR AND GOOD BODY CONDITION HAD A LEAN ON THE TITLE-----THE OTHER CAR WAS IN BAD SHAPE WITH NO MOTOR BUT IT HAD A CLEAN TITLE ---- SO I SWITCHED THE VINS ON THE DASH---BUT MAKE SURE YOU USE POP RIVETS ON THE DASH SO IT LOOKS LIKE THE VIN WAS NOT TAMPERED WITH. :D

there is no use swapping vin plates on the dash because there is a vin number stamped into the firewall of ur car.

Here's the disclaimer: I don't recommend doing any illegal swapping like that: practically everything like that ends up being a felony of some sort. Nobody wants an "F" on his report card.
Having said that, I think my car has been played with. The VIN number plate is missing from the dash, although the number on my title is the same as the one stamped onto the body. The state of Missouri has applied their own stamp and seal which is a little plate mounted on the driver's door frame, just under the latch with a little outline of the state and an official number which is not the VIN.
So I know that if your car is stolen, and the theives try to remove the VIN markings, there is a legal process to get the state to recognize that your car is OK again.
But even though that was all done and is legal, every single time I move to another state and try to get a title or a registration, the inspector takes one look and says, "You have to get it checked out by the state police. You'll need form this, form that, blah, blah.."
I finally took it to a place where the DMV girl was lazy and she didn't bother inspecting it. I had to try several towns before I lucked out.
So if you pull something like this, even legally, expect to be hassled everytime you get it registered or inspected.

PS - your vin# is usally on just about every part on the car, so someone will catch your little swap game sooner or later, you will be fined big time, and prolly see some jail time.
