Question On Primor

Hey, First time I ever primored lastnight. I did it outside, it was quite cold, maybe 18 c although most of it came out ok, some parts had spots. The wernt bubbles, sorta like craters. What has happened? I thought maybe it was water when I washed the shell before hand, my Dad thinks coz it was cold. Do I have to sand it back and do it again? Or can i now give it a light rub, and start putting some nice colour? Also, is 1000grade paper ok to sand with?

i gotta say cuz it had some watter on it. cold would cause orange peel not cratters. The only other way ive herd of tiny creaters in paint is if theres some sort of polish or residue on the body.

Thanks man, it must of been water, as it was only in small confind spaces. So do I have to sand it back an re-primor?

It doesn't have to be water at all, it can be caused by any one of a number of issues.
If you handled the item you part you primered a lot before you sprayed it, you could have got the skin oils off your hands on the part which could cause the paint/primer to not adhere properly and bubble.
If you apply too much primer over an area so that it is really thick, the primer underneath will cause bubbles to form as it dries and the solvents gas out.
If you sprayed it from too close so that the gas didn't completely separate from the paint in the air and thus trapping it in the paintwork, it could cause bubbles as the gas gets released from the paint.
If you shake the can too much and don't give an initial 'gas out' spray before you start spraying the part, small bubble of propellant could be trapped in the paint causing bubbles to form as it gases out.

As you can see, many more reasons you could have got bubbles.

Shit, seems like its every reason you just listed! I shook the can well, didnt spray out a little bit first, handled it before I sprayed it, geesh! So again, does that mean I have to sand it back and respray?

Yep....sand it back with 1000 to get it smooth again then finish off with a 1500 WET N DRY grit paper.
Allow a good day to dry then re-prime again

Thanks PMAN. Also, I have an old fridge at home, is it ok to store it in there after its been sprayed?

As long as its not going ;)
Yep....it would be a nice dust free area. Leave it for about 2-3 hours then bring it out to room temp. It should be dry enough so that any dust that does get on it wont stick.

Waterdrops is a very likely scenario. I tried it once on a ruined model to see the effect. Seems very similar to what you're describing - it's as if (and it's atually what's happening) primer doesn't stick to one particular spot. Just make sure the model is absolutely dry before spraying.

According to my can of primer, it is spelt primEr, and my can even has an Australian logo on it...;)
