dodge starting issue

Hey all, I have an 84 dodge full size 250W 4x4 ram pickup with a 318. Its got a column shifter. The problem is i have to pop it in park alittle harder than normal to get it to turn over if i dont i dont get anything. Is this an adjustment i can make to correct this or a part i need to replace? Thanks for reply.

What happens if you put it in neutral and then try to start it?

it starts fine everytime in neutral but when i put it in park, nothing. I have to take it out of park and kind of slam it back in then it starts.

Does anybody else have any greater ideas?

Sounds like a neutral saftey switch
