Civics = Slow?

2001 Civic +
are these cars any fast at all with a stickshift EX.
My sister just got a new LX and its slower then a ball sack. My dad wants to buy me one to now, but I am afraid I might be driving a slow fuckin car and just want to know if they can be made faster easily and what their competition is......want to be able to run w/ at least a GSR

It takes little effort to get a Civic in to the 15s on the 1/4 and only a little more to make an awsome circut car.

look bro, it's a 4 cyl. car, what do you expect from it. It could use some more horses, and alot more torque. but the car does have potential. You just can't expect crazy tirespin from it right from the factory.

yeah, sorry, but that pretty much sums it up. They are economy cars, not really meant to go fast.

They are sweet looking cars, but I want to know what the potential is,

it all depends on your budget. You could be like those guys in the Fast and the Filthy RIch (oops i mean furious:rolleyes: ) and drop 100k into the car

im not sure on the specs of a american ex, but i think it's a d17z somethign engine this year. There's alot to do, but again, i'll wait 'till i hear out your financial plan on the car

If your mechancily minded and prepared to do the work, then an engine swap could cost as little as 2gand (or cheaper)
to pay someone would cost a little more, maybe 3.5 or 4grand.

Or you could buy an Si civic?

5th and 6th gen Si's are nice....i'm still getting used to the 7th gen civics. So what's the engine code and specs on the 7th gen Si?

The new Si has a K20(something) like the RSX. The Si is rated at 160hp, but is basically the same engine as the Type R, which boasts 200hp. So, tweak the Si a bit, and it'll show some promise... :D

dude i haven't read anything about the new type r's but i know since 98 they were 185 bhp vs the si which has been 160 bhp. yea therefore an si is definetley the way to go cuz any jspec engine is gonna cost ya. also i'd say don't get a new civic cuz especially now they're being made so people will stop modifying them...also any civic lx, dx, cx are gonna be slow as ballz

I usually dont equate Civics as slow. Sure they are not fast cars, but they are pretty nimble for what they are - cheap efficient economy cars. If the goal is streat racing, a civic is not the wisest choice. If the goal is inexpensive reliability, its a good choice.

i knew we don't get the type R, but do the Si's in Canada come with the K20 engine?

Anyways let's answer the questions one by one.

NSX~ I think the engine code is D17Y8 however I am not totally sure. The new generation Si is K20A. Engine spec is 160 hp @ 6500 rpm but 132 lb-ft torque @ 5000 rpm.

Jay@af~ :frog: JDM Integra Type R have 220ps. US Spec Acura RSX Type S have 200hp. For Type S VTEC is on both Intake and Exhaust. Whereas the base model only have it on intake side. Type R uses i-VTEC on intake and VTEC on exhaust side. Type S engine is more strengthen than base engine. The C/R is much higher for Type S engine.

NSX~ Canadian models names are different.

US Si = Canada SiR
US Ex = Canada Si

Yes Canadians will get the same stuff as America does.

NSX~ Europe get's a lot of Honda cars you won't see here.

Europe has Accord Type R, Integra Type R, NSX, S2000 and Civic Type R.

Japan has Accord Euro R(Europe Version), Accord Type R (JDM), Integra Type R, Civic Type R, NSX Type S, NSX Type S Zero NSX Type R2 Prototype and S2000 Type V.

North America has RSX Type S, RSX Type R (Soon), Civic Si, S2000, NSX and Accord.

NSX~ No Canada's Si come with the 130 hp VTEC engine. To get 160 hp you need SiR.

The si in the U.S. won't be available till early next spring. It should run around 17 grand or so.

Sorry but 4 cyl. does not necessarily mean slow. My mom has a 2001 4 cyl. Sabb Aero pushing 230hp. It it turbocharged, but it is FAST, and the 02 model got a 20% boost in hp to 250hp, really FAST and 4 cyl. Also my Civic is no Vette, but does the job for a non assuming three-door economy car. With a power to weight ratio like the Civic has a 4 cyl. is great for 0 to 60 but not at the top end of the speedo.

It will come out late feb or early march of next year. The cost is 18K with everything standard. The only option left is $250 Side airbags.

So A/C, Moonroof, CD player, Suede stich seats, ABS all standard etc.

The only ways to combat displacement disadvantage is through VVT combine with Force induction or High engine speeds. It's like the MR2-T 2.0L engine block that can push 400 RWHP on stock internals without problem. High engine speeds are seen in Motorcycles, S2000 and F1 cars where it can rev up to 16,000 RPM to produce the 800+ hp.

You can always import them can you imagaine RHD? I have found you can also creat your own. Swap a Type R engine from RSX Type R when it comes out into Civic Si and you have a Civic Type R except faster. The only problem I see with that is cost. JDM Integra Type R engine cost around $7,000 USD because it's so rare.

Plus if you live in a state thats really bitchy about the inspection sticker, that could be a problem because "technically" you aren't suposed to use a jdm engine in a usdm car.

That's why the other way around it is to get one from RSX Type R when it hits the shore here. I am sure some people will crash it and some engines will be intact for sale.

Oh, I didn't even know that the RSX type R was coming to the U.S. I thought we were only gonna get the Type S

The Sabb Aero's mentioned in my post earlier are 2.3L. This motor is not VVT and it IS a four cylinder. Remember "01" 230hp or "02" 250hp, all from four bangers, flat out IMPRESSIVE. :cool:

Sabb has variable compression technology. However I don't think they have put that onto any production car yet.

Without VVT the engine is just not as smooth. You want to maximize your engine output at all times. Also VVT contribute to fuel mileage and emission controls.

Why you keep stating 4 Cylinder? 230 hp out of I4 is not something that's brand new. Heck my car Honda S2000's JDM Spec engine makes 250 hp without the help of Turbo and it only has 2000 cc. Something's that's impressive is Evo7's i4 or STi's h4 engines. They put out 300ps with their 2.0L turbocharged engines.

Why dont you get your parents to get you a 92-00 Civic?

They are cheaper then a new one, there are more parts available, The 7th Gen civics have been changed to be more economical,they have changed the suspension in the new civics and made them Struts and took away the double wish-bone suspension that handled wonderfully, they are no longer a subcompact and are now considered a compact. You get much better performance from an older EX then you will with a new one, or try to talk your parents into getting you a used 99-00 SI. Then youll have a lot more power then an EX and they handle better then an EX. With a little bit of $$ you can have an SI spanking a GSR.

yea, its incredibly easy...its a great fit too. but if you're gonna do a swap you might as well get a car with a ton of miles on it. your not gonna get much money for that engine so you should at least rip the **** out of it first.

My dads friend is a mechanic and owns his own shop, so i can get a hook up, how much you guys think it would cost for hte motor and shit, I dont work right now, so obviously i would have to save up and my dad cant find out, so it just wanna know

I dont think Ive seen anyone put an older motor in a 2K1 Civic yet. Im sure theres plenty of space but why would you want to swap it into a new civic. For one thing its illegal to put a motor older then the car. The motor has to be the same year or newer, becuase of emission reasons, I believe. Secondly it would be a whole hell of a lot cheaper to get a 5th or 6th gen civic and put the motor in it. I dont know what they have changed in the 7th Gen civics interms of emissions, but I heard it can be a pain in the ass to try to get everything to work correctly. Plus there are a ton more resources for putting a B18 into a 5th or 6th Gen then there is for a 7th Gen (Im talking about mounts, information, etc.)

does anyone know how to bypass the clutch engagement saftey switch on my stick 2001 civic ex 1.7L, so I can install a remote starter????

and by the way, the ex stick is way faster than a lx auto. u can get it up in the 200 hp range pretty easily.

Damn that was rough. I think thats messed up that people get beat on becuase their parents buy them cars. Hey they bought me my first car (88 sentra) 2 years ago and it was the best feeling in the world. Now that i have bought the rest I so wish my parents would buy them for me. Besides he is right they are slow. The civic especially models lx and lower are economy cars. They are used to get from her to argentina on 1 tank of gas, your not exactly gonna be rippin the pavement up where ever you go. SO go get a 2002 si motor and swap it lol :p :p:D :p :D :smoker2:

DC Sports has a line of products for you car including a cat-back exaust system and headers. They are expanding also. Tail lights are now readily available for your car also.

your civic does 189 mph????? youre talking bout a civic right???? u sure bout that???? i think your speedometer is reading about 40-50 mph more than youre actually going cuz the progress group prepared a purpose-built 99 si with a vortech supercharger, huge air to water intercooler, ultra high compression, fully built internals, tuned endlessly, they took it to the Speed Week at the booneville salt flats and got 164.995 mph average with a 172.961 top speed, which beat the old front wheel drive record of 163.223 mph from 1996. u should bring your civic to the Speed Week next year, your street car should easily be able to whoop all those special built cars and take the world record for front wheel drive...

they make these ars in a manual? i went ot honda the other day to get my car apraised and i test drove a new one and they didn't say anything about manuals and he told me they all came in auto's. you let me know where you find a manual couple. i don't thinkn they make them
