Hey Guys thought I might have posted this question a few days ago but here I go. I work on cars & trucks on a daily basis and I have across of a 2000 Mercury Cougar with the 2.5 L engine that has a blown egr valve and I mean blown to the point of theres a hole in it. NOw im suspecting possibly a clogged catalytic but not sure. I was hopeing someone can chime on this. Customer is on a budget cars in great shape except for this problem. They replaced the EGR valve a week ago and it wouldint even make it one block before exploding again. I suspect catalytics anyone thinks differently let me know.

....... .... ..... .. ............ :shakehead :screwy: :nono:
CHECK the back pressure. Unplug the O2 in front of the main catalytic converter and plug in a pressure gauge. snap the throttle a few times and read the gauge. if you see over 3psi you got a clogged cat.
you haven't checked codes? are you mad!!! Thats like the first thing you should do lol

FYI On a 2000 cougar with a 2.5 there are 3 CATS, yes I did say 3 CATS, trust me i know cause i just had to have them um well i had them fixed  there is one on each manifold then the one behind the final o2 sensor and this car has 4 of those. Just to replace the two on the manifolds just for parts at a parts store, the one in the rear next to the fire wall is almost $800.00 by itself and the front one by the radiator is almost $500.00 by itself. if you take it to a shop its going to run you over 2 grand. thats parts and labor and it might take at least 2 days to complete properly...if you live in the Louisville, KY area, give me a call 502-419-0940 or txt better yet and i can help you out on finding a place cheaper. Good luck buddy
