not sure what to do here. i have a 2001 with the dreaded sohc engine. it first devolped a leak in the exhaust manifold and now i have no compression in #4 cylinder. the others are fine this motor ran great up until now used no oil good starter etc, someone said i probably either broke or cracked a ring. bottom line what would it take to fix this motor again, i was told about 1500 to rebuild the top half of motor and a junkyard motor is $1300. could i just have #4 redone or just new rings installed?? The car is worthless right now and id really like to fix it if its possible:frown:

As many others have found, you have dropped a valve seat into the combustion chamber of the # 4 cylinder on your 2L SOHC SPI. Usually when this happens when the dropped seat gets between the valve and seat or between the piston and head. A rebuilt head is about $500 to $700 then the labor added to get it back on. A used engine will be about $1000 with the labor included in that. You absolutely right about what it is worth now. Been there myself. Sorry to hear it again.
