Releasing Fuel Pressure

I have a 2002 Cavalier with the 2.2 Ecotec. I'm trying to replace the fuel pump but I have to release the fuel pressure. I have read online that you start the engine, then remove the pump relay and let the engine stop and perhaps turn it over a few times to ensure all the pressure has dissipated.
My problem is my engine is not able to turn over, since my fuel pump was the cause of the car not working. Is there any different way to release the pressure if you are not able to turn the car over? Thanks in advance
