GMC Suburban starter 1994 1/2 ton 2WD

I spent a few hours installing the first new starter into our '94 Suburban (206K miles) what a pain in the butt !!!! One has to remove the mounting bolts (easy) from underneath, but getting to the wire connectors are on top, so hidden (the harness for the big wire blocks the nut, and tough to bend in place with starter there), as is the little heat shield. On the other hand, starter was only $35. Fittings appear to be a mixture of metric and stadard, one might've been 9mm nut, first time I ever used a 9mm socket (corresponding nut on new starter was 10mm socket size. Rear heat shield nut needed deep 11mm or 7/16 socket, no reason for that stud being so long.

I can do an old VW bug starter in 10 minutes...

Not complaining, and $35 for replacement is good price. I only expect to keep the vehicle at most 1.5 more years, Mrs. Cusser gives me the evil eye any time anything goes wrong except batteries or tires, apparently she realizes those might wear out. Anything major, and Mrs. Cusser gets her a new-to-her replacement, maybe 5-8 years old, but that ends up being a new project for me, to find one, to set up for towing a horse trailer (6-prong with trailer brakes).

I added a new AC compressor a few months ago, brand-new R4, cost $300 total with accumulator and R134a, but about 40% what a shop would charge.

Be careful with the main wire, don't let it get near the hot exhaust. Ask me how know this !!!!

Anyway, learning my lesson: when replacing the '98 Frontier's radiator this morning, also installed a dealer-only replacement plastic radiator fan, to replace the original cracked one. $92 = ouch !!!
