06 Escape Towing

I have a 06 Escape XLT (3L V6) with approx 90000kms and I was thinking about purchasing a smallish trailer (1500-2000lbs) and wondered if anyone has had any issues (during or after) with towing? It was not equipped with a tow package from the factory, so I would be looking at aftermarket hitches. I have done some reading online, and haven’t seen any major concerns as long as the trailer and contents is within the towing capacity. Any thoughts/feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have an 02 V6 4WD Wilderness Pkg and Towing Pkg. I pull a 2700 lb pop-up camper. I had to add an electric brake module and mirror extenders. Done several trips with no problems. One was middle of summer from Indiana to the far side of South Dakota for Mount Rushmore and back again.
