Mustang won't start

I have a 98 v6 Mustang (automatic) with 104,000 miles. Wife parked it the other day, put it in park and it rolled. She didnt think anything of it until she went to start. Turn the key and nothing happens. Dash light up as normal but no sound from starter. When she told me what happened when she parked I tried the shifter and it just floats. Remove the emergency brake and the car rolls.

Not sure if it is just a cable or if something more serious with the transmission. Car had been running fine up to this point.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Sounds like a problem with the shift cable. It is attached to the transmission on the driver side. See if it moved when the gear shift lever is moved. You may have to open the pan up and see if the rooster comb spring is in place, too. It may have broke some how.
