Hey folks, I am back into modelling. I haven't done anything for a little over 4-6 years in total. I decided to get back into modelling and do it properly this time.
I bought an airbrush, some models and paint and got to work. I have never used an airbrush before so naturally this model will look terrible! but give me some faith, all is fixable with some elbow grease.
I started with Tamiya primer, using flat black to give the interior and chassis a base coat to add details onto. The body is in an unconventional (to lexus) royal blue from the tamiya acrylic range. I didn't thin it enough, so there is LOTS of orange peel. After the paint has dried / cured for 30 hours I will remove the orange peel and give it a light coat of paint again, before working on the body details.
I chose to build this as the stock LS400 as I have 2 kits, the other one will be done as the VIP style.
enjoy and be kind, hopefully my models will get better soon!

I remember my first try with the airbrush, the same as you have! The car looks good, and it is good to see another Australian on here! I use to buy tamiya thinner, but I find it easier to just use water on the acryllic. Keep going at the airbrush, I have been using it for two years and every so often forget to thin the paint as much and get the orange peel!

Thanks alot. Yeah I cut the paint right back, thinned a second lot down and gave it another spray. Turned out MUCH better this time. the second picture shows how dark the paint is in reality.

a quick update, just a mockup. polished the roof and bonnet, no polish or wax elsewhere yet, unsure if i want to clearcoat or not. This is just the tamiya acrylic airbrushed on.
