2002 S10 4.3L Vortec Lower Intake Manifold EGR Location

I had to purchase a new lower intake manifold for my 2002 4.3L Vortec 4WD Crew Cab because of a problem I cause will replacing the intake gaskets. When I recieved the new intake it had the EGR Mount holes in the front of the intake. Well my old intake did not. According to my Vin number my engine is a "W" and is the original engine. Every site I have went to only has this intake with the EGR mount in front. Is this a new design? Am I missing something? I am totally confused. Any help would be greatful. Thanks, JDW

The 2002 Astro/Safari "X" engine does not have an EGR valve. As far as I know, it's the only 4.3L without one. If your new manifold has provisions for a valve, and your old manifold did not, you'll need to fabricate a plate to block off the passages, OR, get a valve from a junkyard and bolt it on, don't connect anythiing to it.
