its driving me nuts......im about to take a sledge to it!!!!
this might unrelated but for some reason turning on the ac or fans makes it go away for a short period!!!!

Check your hoses on the intake manifold by the trotle body.Have your car on if any hoses are disconnected put them back on.I had this same problem back when i had my HF engine.

sounds like possibly low on coolant. also check your radiator. it those are good, it could also possibly be a vaccuum leak. but check the coolant first.

Yep i agree with ami. Thats what happened to me after my engine was warmed up.

hello everyone, just joined (probably my first post, anyways)
just to chime in, this was happening to me a while back exactly. it turned out to be a faulty voltage regulator. it was shot, so that it was no longer able to handle the over charging, so that turning on the a/c was a temporary solution. check the voltage over the battery when it is surging and see what it is.
hope that helps

unfortunately it can be a few things....first check vacum leaks and your TPS sensor a loose or broken sensor will cause the same thing. Then also check your coolant like they said. What happens is your IAT sensor or you coolant sensor will sense the air passing by it making it think the motor is cold so it kicks the idle up and down to warm the motor because it thinks it's cold.
So check those 3 first then I would go to the voltage and if that's still not it I would look for a leak in the throttle body or intake manifold because small leaks will do the same.
Good luck!

if you have a check engine light then it maybe your throttle position sensor. if not then more than likely a vacum leak.
