Hi I am looking for some help with a truck for sale. I have a friend that is looking at a 1998 silverado, he says it has a 5.0L, it's 4-wheel drive, extended cab. It has 127,000 miles on it. Now the problem he has with it is the engine and transmission have both been replaced, one was replaced a year ago the other 2 years ago. I don't remember which one was done first. He is concerned about buying a truck with this mileage and having this kind of work done. I am not familiar with this engine, and have not even heard of it. I thought they had the 5.3 and 5.7, but could be wrong. The replacements are Jasper and I am told they are good engines and trannys. Also the truck has been owned since new by an older gentleman, who has recently passed away. It doesn't have a tow hitch and never towed, and I believe it was garage kept. Is this truck something to stay clear of? Have there been any issues with this engine?

Thanks

the real question is for what cost ???

the 5.0 L engine is most likely an early 90's engine ...not good for a pick up truck ...especially 4WD...

If its for around $ 1,ooo .oo and it runs give it a shot ..

I would not expect to tow anything large , or carry any heavy loads with this ...this engine lacks HP...

I believe he said they are asking $5700 for it. That's another thing he was worried about was the power, I believe he wants to tow with it. I told him I wouldn't get a truck without a 5.7 in it, then he wouldn't have anything to worry about. Thanks for getting back.

He should look to get a 2000 - 02 model with the 5.3L ...4WD..
I have seen these for around $5-7,5oo...
