84 scottsdale quit running

while returning home from an errand my 84 scottsdale quit running while taking off from a stop sign.Carb is getting fuel and the cap,rotor,plugs and wires have been replaced a few months ago.Checked them and they are all good.need to know what else to check?

Are you getting good spark to all plugs and at coil?
Any noise when it quit?
Have yoiu checked fuel pressure?

I didnt notice any noise when it quit as i had the tunes up.I have not checked for the spark yet waiting till it cools down a bit before i do that,as far as checking the coil i am not sure how to do that with an HEI.

just checked for spark and there wasn't any.Thinking maybe i need to replace regulator in distributor.

If no spark at spark plugs check for spark out of coil and 12 volt ign to coil and for dist shaft turning when cranking.

To check for spark from coil get a spark tester and stick it in coil where coil wire comes out.

the distributor has an electronic ignition module...this is usually the cause with your symptoms...If you had some arcing in the recent past this causes this to fail sooner ..this usually goes after 150-225,ooomi...

84 with a heli ign you have to pull dist cap to get to coil output terminal.

First check rotor for short and dist shaft turning and as J-Cat said module is usually blown on them. try a new one or known good one.
But also could be dist shaft coil.

You will have to do some testing and looking to find the problem.
