well....started the back of my crx

well i decide i wanted to do sumthing custom with the back of my car so i took out all interior shit in the back yesterday and today i just started to do alittle sumthing..........its kinda hard to get sumthing done when you low on the money but i should be goign to the bank tomorrow so hopfully this will start to come together..........this is what it looks like now.........

this is the back view the rim will be im a box and plexy glass over it so you can see in and there will be sum neons in there ........

i can't wait to see how this turns out! That is a lot of airspace for those 12s, should get good frequency reproduction... but it might be too much. some stuffing material might be an order. Might I suggest dynamatting some stuff before you get too far in? Dynamat is worth every penny!

the 12s are going to be in boxes i just havnt got to that point and im doing like four things at once .......like this that i just started i have to shave the drainage things on the roof, my teg tails should be here like tomorrow or the next day, i have to order my kit and door caps.......shave the door caps..........a lot of work if you ask me im not sure if im goign to have to car done like good enought to drive by october 18th but if not oh well

also don't skimp on wires, get good quality wires like Monster car audio wires, RCA's and Power Wire... again worth every penny.

I would not place a single 6x9 in the middle of the subs like that... not 2 6x9... i would just place the subs there because you will not have enough seperation between them and will through off the acoustics... unless your going with a Dolby Digital 6.1 ( front left, front right, front center, rear right, rear left, rear center & subs) setup... and if so Rock On brother.

another thing I may wanna point out is that you May want to replace your fuel pump, because it looks like it's not going to be a friendly access to it and since were dealing with 11+ year old cars the fuel pump is bound to go... I recomend a Walbo (they make the holley ones).

another thing... too many tweeter is not a good thing, you will overpower your highs. In a car like ours the tweets should be in the front. the rear speakers are for ballance sound. 75% of your sound comes from the front. Subs are un directional (they can be anywhere) tweets are directions, and speaker placemant is KEY. there are 3 thing to remember when dealing with car audio, Speaker location, speaker loaction and speaker location. 4 properly placed speakers will out perform 200 improperly placed speakers.

K.I.S.S. Keep it Simple Stanley ! The more complex the design the more can go wrong.

Like yer style man, But about what Kunundrum said, MAYBE.. i dunno, u know how u have the sub then tweeters and 6x9, then another sub ?? MAYBE you can make each one its own lil' box w/plexi glass and wood ? ( or fiberglass whatever youre going w/ ) it will keep them to their own space and sound and you should be able to tell them apart. And DynoMat does help , but also, just a bunch of that cotton stuff. Any cotton you can put in pillows tye cotton. ( inside of teddy bear type cotton :D ) Just put it inside of the box w/the subs. If i had a scanner, i'd give you another tip.. i'll just draw on ( might be ugly ) but so u get the idea.

* all the subs were in 1 long box.. and there were 2 ports air could escape from for better sound and what not..( it was custom made w/smooth fiberglass look to it so i'll try my best ;) ) heres what it was like :

you do realize that adding packing material to the inside of a box slows the waves down and simulates an even bigger box?

i meant like space fillers like making an inner wall that cuts down on the airspace... one that you don't see... yeah i was thinkin about that after i posted it... got a li'l mixed up. thanks for the correction!

about the tweeters cant i like set the volume down on them so they dont come out relaly long or sumthing like that??


im goign to put the subs and i dunno about the 6x9 yet but theres goign to have there own separate boxes......and about the fuel pump im going to try to design sumthing like where i could drop the whole gas tank down with the fuel pump and everything attached i dont kno yet.........im not going to finish this until everything outside is done like the molding the door caps in, the side skirts, the drainage things on the roof (i just did them today almost done) and the tails and everything is ready to be painted.......

I see it alot people want to overpower the rear... I don't know why.

take a close look at your ears... they are in a better designed to accept forward frequency. The Prime location for front speakers is the kick panel. However due to it's location No car company places a speaker there due to the likelyhood of it gettin steped on, snow ice meling on it, sand... so on. so most place it the doors. An acceptable location.

the rear speakers like I mentioned before were place for ballancing the sound and also for rear passengers (less of a problem with our cars)

Now More is not nessesairly better when it comes to speakers.

Subs because they are non-directional can be placed anywhere in the car and do not cause problems ( other than ratteling ) In a CRX Placing the subs facing Upwards toward the rear hatch is best because when it hits the glass it amplifies the bass... the ammount of subs is up to you.

Tweets should be in the front spectrum of the car and if you are running a component system ( drivers + tweet with X-over) keeping the tweet closest to the driver is key to avoid overpowering of the highs, because High Frequencys Travel faster than lower ones, if you place them closer to your ears you will hear the highs before the mids. were only talking about 1/1000 of a sec but timing is everything.

Like I mentioned Before 3 key components to a good car audio system is Speaker location, Speaker location & Speaker location.

this summer I will be totaly redoing my audio system with something a little more pleasing to the eye... I post pictures and junk too.

retaining somewhat stock look with something I never had before in this car... storage space... stay tuned for this.

so......do you think that the lay out i have right now isnt that good?? even if i dont put the tweeters there and i put them in hte front??i dont really kno too much about the audio stuff i really would like to keep it how i have it now i mean i could change where the subsa and speakers are going ......but i would want the wood right behind the seats and the top of it if you kno what im tlaking about but how do you think i can lay it out by keeping the wood how i have it now???.....thanks for you help

the desing you have now is not that bad, I would do a few changes though... keeping in my this is my opinion.

1. no rear tweets.
2. I would use rounds speakers not oval. (6 1/2 or 5 1/4)
3. I would have the speakers on the outside behind the seats without subs there
4. the top would be for subs and amp rack only

yeah i was thinking about putting round speakers not the 6x9s
