I posted a thread a litle while ago about engine swap for my 88 civic Lx(sedan) so now after checkin out my possibilities , im thinkin of doin a d16y8 swap....I thought it would b a good swap since its pretty cheap and it would still give me a litle bit more power than my stock engine.....I was wonderin if this swap would b a direct bolt on with my tranny and evrythin else. I was also wonderin if there are a lots of aftermarket stuff for it and would it support turbo or NOS ??
Thanx!

there is pretty good aftermarket support for it, it would support nitrous and or a turbo but with proper building unless your gonna run low boost or a low shot, there is however more aftermarket support for the z6 also SOHC VTEC, if you plan on going crazy with this thing i would recomend a z6 if you just want some bolt ons and some nitrous you can stay y8, either is a good swap

go with the y8. there is the same aftermarket support because they are essentially the same engine with a couple of changes. Also, if you plan on NOT converting to OBD1 or OBD2, the y8 is a better choice because your stock distributor will bolt on with no problems.. with the z6 you have to do some hacking at it to make it fit.

from what I hear the z6 is easier to wire.

its exactly the same. I belive the y8 might have a knock sensor since its OBD2, but not sure.

they are essentially the same engine.

there is the same aftermarket support because they are essentially the same engine with a couple of changes they dont make that many diff cams for the y8 as they do z6 or even a6 :buck

not sure if you knew it, but you can put any z6 cam in a y8, there is just an issue of cam timing. you'll have to re-degree the cam. its something like 3 degrees off which can be fixed with an adjustable cam gear.

it's not the same wiring when it comes to MPFI conversion. honda has that lovely habbit of changing injector impedance (sp?)....so they changed it again with the y8. i have yet to find info that addresses this problem for the dx/lx DPFI on the net....since i have an si we didn't have to deal with it.

but isnt there something about the number of splines wrong on the input shaft or something ?

Everything should be the same...

Just get the P28 ECU and distributor from a D16z6 and a wiring harness from Turbo_EK@yahoo.com Then all you have to do is extend 8 wires and you'll be set up for OBD1. That's what I'll be doing.
