Knocking sound on '00 Cherokee Sport

My Jeep is making a knocking noise when making hard turns at slow speeds. Normally I notice this most when pulling into a parking spot or making a turn at a stop sign.

The knocking is intermittent and varies in sound level. My mechanic has changed the bushings on the sway bar one time b/c he said the bar was bent. Next time in the shop, they tightened the wheel bearings. He said that if it continues, they will have to rip apart the front end.

I've seen one other person report this and have a friend with the same problem. Is anyone else having this issue, and if so, what the heck is it and how do I make it stop?

You might need a new wheel bearing, it could also be a CV joint, or it could be your strut.

I had a knocking in my front end of my 94 Grand Cherokee. It would make a knocking and shhh sound when I would turn corners. Took it in and had the front axle joints replaced. Was good to go.

I have a 2001 Cherokee sport and have a knocking noise in the front drivers side.. Not all the time just some of the time. Took it in last week and they said it was the sway bart asseembly so they replaced it. Still there. Im afraid its something like a bad hub or something. Usually you hear it when your going slower over just gentle bumbs. Really get on my nerves. I still have about six thousand mile left on my warrentee.. Wish me luck and ignore the spelling. TB

Might try tranny crossmember bolts, fixed my problem after replacing a bunch of parts.

Lost my mind, I meant try "tightening" the tranny crossmember and mount bolts. Worked on my 98 and kept me from going insane. Replaces lots of stuff before finding someting so simple.
