i know my clock spring is broken because my airbag light is on and the steering wheel radio controls quit working.

i bought a used one at the junkyard for $15 versus $160 new at my gm dealer.

my question is, how can i tell if the used clock spring is good (not bad) before taking all the time and energy to install it and then find out it is also no good?

i'm trying to save some effort. if i have to buy a new one, does anyone know where i can find an aftermarket clock spring? i didn't have any luck finding an aftermarket one, so i gambled and bought the used one.

Check the continuity of each wire with an ohm meter, or install it, those are the only ways.

Also watch removal and installation of a clock spring.
If turned to many turns one way they will break.
Have the salvage yard center steering wheel straight ahead before the remove it and lock the clock spring in that position.
Then when you install first disable air bag system.
As to repair manual instructions.
Then center your wheel straight ahead and install the clock spring.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.
