Over due oil change

How much damage willing going 10,000 miles before an oil change (in just a little over 3 months) do to a 2010 Corolla?

I suddenly had a lot of students on my schedule and our mechanic went out of business, so I finally looked at my mileage and it's been 10,000 miles since my last oil change.
(about 43,000 miles total on the vehicle).

That depends on a lot of factors. What type of oil are you using in the car (conventional, synthetic blend, or synthetic)? What is the recommended change interval according to the owner's/maintenance manual? Does the oil still appear decent on the dipstick or is it black and thick? From what I recall, this car is used for driver's education and therefore probably driven mostly in an "easy" environment with few jack rabbit starts, not much gravel, not many heavy loads, etc. And if the car is generally well maintained and in good running condition, that helps too.

It's not as bad as I thought, I was looking at the trip miles, not seeing the decimal point which was 434.35 miles.
The actual mileage is only above 14,000 and the last oil change was at 10,330. So it's only about 1,000 miles over due,
Thankfully NOT 10,000 miles like I first thought!


And yes, it is a Drivers Ed car, a lot of freeway driving, but a lot of city "stop and go" driving too. But no heavy loads.

That's good to know 10,000 miles over due for an oil change wouldn't necessarily destroy the engine! :cool:

Ummm, what do you use for an oil change interval? The new math would suggest you only have about 700 miles on the oil, that's WAAAAYY too soon to be changing the oil, even if you were using the car under severe driving conditions! Or are you suggesting the oil sticker said the car was due at 13,330 and the current odometer mileage reads just over 14k so, according to the sticker, the car is about 700 miles OVERDUE?

I'd suggest you check the maintenance guide for your car to see what the manufacturer recommends for the oil change interval. From what I've seen, many of the shops and quick lube places still default to a 3000 mile or 3 month interval. Many of the newer cars suggest something longer than that, even when using conventional oil.

13,330 is the DUE date, honestly I know what I meant to say, I just wrote it wrong. I have very exhausted lately.

Our driving school gets oil changes at 3000 mile intervals.
