Hey guys, well after a VERY long time im finally finished with the car... its def. been a learning experience during this build and if i ever do something like this again it will be 10000x better, i made a lot of mistakes early on (my fist time working with putty and it was my 2nd model ever started) that could not be fixed in the later stages of the build when i some-what improved my skills. I have put it hours upon hours of body work into this car and im over all satisfied with the finished looked.
This started from a Sard Racing supra and i mated the Tamiya supra chassis to the race car body, that def. had its twists, especially when i went to put on the wheels and they ended up sitting about a half inch lower then they were supposed to, so what i had to do was cut the factory mounts out and just glue the wheels on a shaft into the body so that they do not turn or spin, but the stance came out perfect i think.
I also cut the hood out and put a twin turbo 2jz in b/c the sard is a curb-side model with no engine. The engine is one of the better aspects of the car. Each downpipe is ran like it is on a real hks supra twin turbo, and each runner on the manifold has it own individual heat wrap.
I also replicated the top secret hood with carbon fiber vent.
If i do this again i def will keep the sard chassis instead of going with the tamiya to keep it much cleaner.
anyways, enough talking, i hope you guys like it.
ps: the hood isnt situated perfect yet, i need to heat it and bend it to shape just a bit more (this is one the earlier mistakes i was talking about with not lining up the putty to be level on both sides)

Congratulations! It must be a great feeling to have finished this. I've been wanting to do this same mod but it seems pretty intimidating. I'll have to ask you for some tips if I decide to go ahead with it. :p

thanks man, it def. feels realllyy good to have it done finally, you dont even know how many times i went to put primer on the car just to find out that what i thought was sanded good actually wasnt and imperfections showed up... i did that about 5 times before putting it away for about 6 months until now :)
the biggest tip i can tell you is that if you can get away from making an open-hood model, do so, its a lot work that if not done right will mess up the overall look... if you decide to open the hood, the engine bay will have to be reconstructed from a tamiya kit...
which brings me to my next point...like i mentioned, the tamiya chassis, although lines up perfectly under the body, sits too "low" compared to the rest of the body, like the wheel wells, so the wheels look like the car is lifted up if mounted in the factory location.... I am thinking about ordering another kit and making the kit like it comes with the race chassis so that i can mount the wheels and all of that, and i will just make another widebody body.... um, that and make sure you mask off important parts of the model before you start sanding the putty so you dont erase anything needed. and also, try not putting any putty over the orignal body line between the bumpers and stuff unless you want to get rid of them completely.
and the last thing (sorry for thel ong post) WET SAND WET SAND WET SAND! dry sanding seems to be useless and doesnt do nearly as good of a job that a wet sand does :)

are you talking about wet sanding the primer or the filler?
I thank you for the tips too. haha

I think it looks great, a very well done race-to-street build. I think you did a great job mating that chassis to the body, and wouldn't sweat that the wheels don't move. I can't remember the last car I made with moving wheels. Tough luck on the hood, but you'll get it right. And remember, none of us don't think we need improvement in some areas - there is a lesson in every kit (according to one very wise AF member). I think it looks fantastic, and can't wait to see what you're going to do next! The only advice I will give, don't be intimidated! Go for it, no matter how challenging, and break it up into smaller projects where each one is attainable, and when you're all done, start a new one that's even more ambitious!
Great work!
Great work!

thanks for the words of wisdom man, i appreciate it. I actually considered buying another sard supra and doing a little better conversion . I have also been asked ont he supra forums to recreate an Ablug gt 500 supra...that looks a bit scary but like you said, i guess if i start breaking it up into parts of the car i might get it done, and if i dont try it i will never know if i can or obtain the skills to do so.
again, thanks.
again, thanks.
