Throttle Positioning Censor

Well I am writing on behalf of my parents. My mom's 2005 Town & Country is acting funny and she panics when it acts up. When she gets down in gear ready to stop it will jerk. The engine will race up while stopped and it wants to just go!!! Well she took it to shop where she bought it because it is under warranty. They did nothing, said they didn't think anything was wrong. That is BS! It has been still doing this for a while now. I went to pick up a part for my car and ask the guy what he thinks was wrong with my mom's car. His first guess was the throttle positioning censor. He said they can even test it to see if it works. We figure it would be much cheaper just buy the part and have my dad fix it than taking it back to the shop. He is good with cars, but more knowledgeable with the older cars. Anyway he has no idea where this part is located. Can you point us in the right direction??

I'll assume you have the 3.3 or 3.8 ltr engine. Follow the 3 inch diameter air intake duct to the Throttle Body (TB). You'll see two sensors mounted on the TB, the lower sensor is the TPS sensor. You may have to remove the TB to gain access. If you don't have a manual I would recommend you register with the AutoZone website and look up the procedure for your 05. It will show you how to test and replace it.

Far from a hard and fast rule but generally if any sensor fails it should generate a fault code and light up the Service Engine Soon light on the dash. Are you seeing it? You can have your codes checked for free at Autozone.

i agree, i wouldn't replace a known good sensor if it's not the problem

have autozone do a scan and see if there's any codes... bring that code back to the shop

or get another shop to diagnose/fix the problem and make the seller pay for it (always have a paper trail, starting with the seller/shop to document that they can't replicate the problem)

did you actually have the technician sit on the passenger side and you show him the problem directly?
