changing a manual shift 4x4 to an electronic

My daughter has a 1996 k1500 with a 5.7ltr engine. I am getting ready to replace her eng with a 98 5.7ltr eng (hers has a rod knocking). My question is can i replace the manual 4x4 shifter with the push button if so what components would I have to replace. Is there a difference between a 2 wheel drive trans and a 4 wheel drive trans other than the tail cone the differential bolts to?

If a manual floor shift you have to stay with it.
2W and 4W transmissions have the same bolt patterns but tail shaft out the rear is different.
Also different years inside and valve body parts and computer controls are different.
